On the Workbench…
The shop is quiet today and being monitored by our team of newts, geckos and skinks. The bench is cleared of orders and scraps.
Mistakes are sorted into two piles, kindling and random names for my “Ready-Made” section of Etsy. Not as many misnomers this year as previous years.
About 10 gallons of dust have been vacuumed from horizontal surfaces and floors are swept. Most of our work comes from solid hardwoods, so our dust is free from the chemicals and glues that are used to make plywood, MDF and plastics. It makes excellent mulch/compost to areas of our plot of land. Earthworms abound!
My table saw’s six foot outfeed table, has been cleared for ripping longer boards. During the busy holiday season, I rarely need to cut anything longer than 18”. So, this table top temporarily houses a number tools needed to speed things up; a benchtop spindle sander, a jointer/planer combo and an inverted router with a fence are kept there. Other tools come and go, depending on the project du jour.
I will need the full length for replacing a rotted front porch column that has been nagging me for the last few months. Hopefully, this project will begin next week after a trip to my favorite lumber monger and go smoothly. I’ll keep y’all informed.
Sneak Peek Slideshow
My Etsy store has been closed since Christmas shipping deadlines have come, so I do not have any “Sneak Peeks” this week. So here is a pic of our tree.
I will reopen January 1st, and I hope to have something more to show you by the 8th.
A Quiet Peaceful Christmas
As mentioned in previous blogs, we don’t travel much anymore. Our family is now scattered within a triangle that stretches from Florida to Texas to New York. Photos of former gatherings remain (usually at Mom’s) and memories of those who are no longer with us visit daily.
We have done our share of hectic holidays and traveling and are now content to enjoy our peaceful times at home with visits from friends and neighbors. In my opinion, there is no better wish, for people of all faiths to find your peace in daily life.
Merry Christmas from Julie and Scott!

I currently sell my work on Etsy ONLY. Beware of spoof sites, using my photos and descriptions. You will be disappointed ordering from them.
