The Taxman Cometh… Eventually
This week’s blog is truncated due to time constraints, the imposed upgrade of Windows 11, taxes and doctor appointments. One thing always leads to another.
Sunday morning I sat down at the computer to spend the next four to five hours doing our 2025 income taxes, that are due next week. I quickly learned that my old All-in-One’s (AIO) Windows 10 was no longer compatible with the tax preparation service I have happily used for 12 years (TurboTax). I knew that the obsoletion of WIN10 was coming, but I expected it to get me through the summer.
So, I had an unexpected upgrade to make on a limited budget. After a frantic search and research and I ended up with a Dell 3060 Optiflex (computer only) for $300.00 and used my old AIO as the monitor, via an HDMI cable.
The connections all worked and I am now up and running, able to toggle back and forth. I am trying to devise a quick way to share and backup files between computers. I will explore software to do this, but if anyone has any tips about this configuration, I would love to hear them below in comments or in an email.
The old AIO unit is still running good with lots of storage left, so I hope to figure out how to use it as an NAS to backup new files.
The new CPU doubled the speed of my system and storage capacity, so YAY! I can’t wait to check out all that Windows 11 brags about.
Tax software downloaded three days later, I plan to start taxes after writing this, hopefully completing them in between orders and other responsibilities, and zipping them off by Saturday.
Luck to the rest of you!
