Friday Workshop Roundup
HAPPY SPRING!
Another slow week for Etsy orders. Nevertheless, I am staying busy with household chores, gathering info for tax preparation and learning the considerable capabilities of Canva. My brother Dave, at the Happy Hobby Newsletter, turned me on to this tremendous tool for creating graphics and a multitude of other cool stuff.
Chopsticks boxes coming… I have been struggling to come up with a quality, quickly made wooden gift box to nest my chopsticks in. Customers have been requesting these for a number of years, but time and shop space continue to be the main obstacles in producing a quality box in-house.
So, I have resorted to jobbing it out to a fellow woodworker in Palm Bay, Florida that has a CNC machine and can produce them at a price that I feel I can reasonably offer to my customers. This will allow me to concentrate on my carving and shaping my personalized products.
The magnetic-closing lid prototype Daniel sent still needs a few tweaks and finishing but looks to be exactly what I envisioned.
It will also have a laser-engraved DustyNewt logo on the lid.
I have an assortment of 50 coming in Walnut, Cherry and Maple woods. They will retail for $20.00 each (boxes only) and available in my Etsy shop by the end of April.
Newly Added… I have come into some White Oak wood for making Chopsticks and Keychains. It is a strong, closed-pore oak that is suitable for food utensils and widely used for boat building and wine/whisky barrels. Here is a sample I did to make a listing on Etsy.
Sneak Peeks
Thanks for checking in. Here’s a view of this week’s Etsy orders.
For customers, this should ease your mind that your order is quite important to me and being attended to, not sitting on a clipboard or in the to-do pile. Also, if your order is being sent as a gift to a recipient at another address, you get to see it before they do.
For subscribers, this will give you an idea of the physical things I create and ship worldwide. They keep me sane and help me find my peace.
Every order is carved individually by hand, in the order that they are received. Some weeks are busier than others. I usually carve and ship within 3 to 5 business days.
If you are enjoying what you see… I like it hot and black. 😉
Please join me every Monday for a new “17 Step Commute” blog and Friday for the week’s “News & Sneak Peeks”. Subscribe for FREE to get it sent directly to your inbox.
Another great roundup! Leftover pot roast ranks among the greatest things in the world.
Question for you -- do you have a name for your keychain font? Is it one you designed yourself from necessity, or are you using a specific font? DustyNewt font would be amazing to someday see on Canva someday! Keep up the great work!
