Inserting a Red Heart to Your Carving
While everyone loves their name, adding a red heart turns it into a statement. You can put it at the front of the name (❤JULIE), the back of the name (JULIE❤), or somewhere in the middle (TEX❤MEX).
Today, I carved a standard size name keychain (1/2” x 1/2”) in Bocote wood. Bocote is an extremely hard and dense wood from Mexico that has a very striking grain that ranges from black to blonde. The beauty of the grain doesn’t become evident until you make fresh cuts or remove the dark, oxidized surface of the rough board. Sanding to 600 grit and applying finish is always a surprise to woodworkers that use Bocote.
